Stroke Development Classes

Stroke Introduction 1

  • Introducing breathing control (adapting a front snorkel approach)
  • Fixing kicking
  • Adding arm motions for freestyle (front crawl)
  • Focusing on proper arm position and motion using drills and equipment
  • Improving coordination with arms and legs on front
  • Learning to kick a distance on back and staying afloat while in motion
  • Adding arm motion for backstroke (back crawl)
  • Combining leg and arm motions on back
  • Having a firm understanding and skill set of freestyle and backstroke before moving on
  • Feeling confident using front snorkel
  • Classes are roughly 20 minutes

Stroke Introduction 2

  • Continuing to practice previous strokes, freestyle and backstroke
  • Learning breathing control for freestyle with no snorkel
  • Introduction to butterfly and breaststroke
  • Understanding and improving techniques for Butterfly and brea stroke
  • Before moving on all, four strokes must be taught and understood.
  • There must be a firm technique must be shown in all four strokes
  • Classes are roughly 20 minutes

Stroke Improvement

  • Improving all four strokes
  • Continuing with freestyle using snorkel to master proper arms and legs
  • Mastering and understanding proper breathing control with all four strokes
  • Working to build up an endurance to swim farther and longer
  • Classes are roughly 30 minutes

Stroke Refinment

  • After all strokes are understood and all basic techniques are taught, working on fine tuning each stroke is focused on.
  • Working on proper rotation, lengthening strokes, and breathing patterns
  • Class that is a bit more adaptable for what you are personally looking for
  • Diving, flip-turns, speed, Endurance, and strength can all be worked on.
  • Classes are roughly 30 minutes

Small Group

  • It is not always ideal to work with small groups versus a one on one lesson. However, understanding that many factors play into who you would prefer this, there are times where group lessons can take place.
  • Stroke Introduction 1 needs to be completed prior to any group lessons.
  • Stroke Introduction 2 is ideal for children to be on a similar page of skill set.
  • Stroke Improvement and Stroke Refinement is where group lessons become a bit more adaptable. Here not all students have to be at the skill level but will learn similar skills to adapt to their own level.
  • Group lessons can be taught at your own pool if you have others who would want to participate.
  • All students who would like to participate in group lessons do need to have a prior assessment of skill level.
  • 2 or more students for 30 minutes
